Collaboration And Communication With Nurse Practitioners Essay

Role Change

1. How do you think the role change from RN to NP will challenge your knowledge, skills, and collaboration?

The role change from RN to NP will challenge my knowledge, skills, and collaboration in several ways. One thing I will need to do is become more knowledgeable about the various health conditions and disease processes that are common in my practice specialty in order to accurately diagnose and treat patients. I will also need to develop better communication skills to collaborate more effectively with other health care professionals, such as doctors and physical therapists, in order to provide comprehensive care for my patients (Claiborne et al., 2020). Finally, I will need to become more adept at advocating for my patients in order to ensure that they receive the best quality care.

2. Reflect on your feelings concerning caring for unvaccinated COVID patients. Do you have any biases, unconscious or conscious? How can this have an effect on the care you provide?

I recognize that my own biases, conscious and unconscious, can have an effect on the care I provide to unvaccinated COVID patients. When I have these biases, it is possible that they may lead me to make assumptions and judgments regarding the care I give (Sukhera et al., 2020). And I do feel bias when I care for unvaccinated patients who are unconscious, especially in African Americans. I feel like they arent vaccinated because they dont trust the system. However, I dont treat them any differently. Im actually more empathetic, out of awareness for all this.
